New Rams QB Jimmy Garoppolo Playing Backup

The Los Angeles Rams have secured Jimmy Garoppolo as their backup quarterback behind Matthew Stafford, the team’s starting QB.

Garoppolo is thrilled about the opportunity presented to him.

With the successful signing of veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to a one-year contract, the Los Angeles Rams have fortified their roster with a dependable backup QB in case of Matthew Stafford’s absence due to injury.

Garoppolo brings experience as the former field general for the San Francisco 49ers, who reached the Super Bowl in 2020.

Despite being accustomed to starting, he embraces his role as a backup and looks forward to contributing to the Rams’ success.

“I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and excited to learn from the talented offensive minds here,” Garoppolo expressed.

“I understand my position and trust that things will work out.”

Garoppolo has previously served as the No. 2 option, notably behind Tom Brady during his tenure with the New England Patriots.

Despite expectations of eventually succeeding Brady, he was traded to San Francisco, where he primarily started until being replaced by Brock Purdy.

He then joined the Las Vegas Raiders.

Though facing challenges, including a suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, Garoppolo sees his move to the Rams as a fresh start and eagerly anticipates contributing to the team’s success.

“I’m thrilled to embark on this new journey,” Garoppolo remarked. “I’m eager to get back on the field and compete alongside my teammates.

Football is my passion, and I can’t wait to showcase my skills once again.”

Garoppolo officially signed his one-year contract with the Rams on Tuesday after passing his physical.

Despite a two-game suspension to start the 2024 season due to a violation of the league’s policy, he’s eligible to participate in summer and preseason activities.

“I accept responsibility for my mistake,” Garoppolo admitted, referencing his violation of the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

He opted not to appeal the decision.
