Detroit Lions cornerback Cam Sutton is wanted for domestic violence in Florida. Early this month, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Sutton's arrest for one count of domestic violence by strangulation in Lutz, Florida, a Tampa suburb.
Sheriff's office spokeswoman Phil Martello said the department responded to a domestic violence incident involving Sutton, 29, and a woman at 5 a.m. March 7.
Martello said the victim had wounds that indicated an event, and an arrest warrant was issued the same day. The department requested Sutton's location on social media on Wednesday. Sheriff's office posted that Sutton may be driving a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the license plate number. Martello thinks Sutton is in Florida, not Michigan.
"We served his warrant on the seventh because of all the evidence that we found there," he stated. "Found him nowhere in Tampa; probably fled. We got two license plate reader hits, but we haven't found him yet, so we're stuck.
They’ve attempted to make contact with him, can’t get him on the phone, so they’ve released — our detectives have exhausted everything to try and get ahold of him and that’s why we end up putting the stuff on social media."
Sutton and Kortnee Alexander's paternity case had a Zoom hearing on March 6 and a canceled hearing on March 7. Alexander's attorney did not respond to the Free Press.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Lions said, “We became aware of the ongoing legal situation involving Cam Sutton this morning. We will continue to watch the issue and have no further comment.” Jason Setchen, Sutton's attorney, did not respond to a request for comment.
Sutton struggled in his first season with the Lions after signing a three-year, $33 million deal last offseason. Starting all 17 regular season games, he recorded 65 tackles and one interception, although he struggled late in the season and in the playoffs against top receivers.
After trading for Carlton Davis III and signing Amik Robertson in free agency, the Lions strengthened their secondary. Davis was slated to start opposite Sutton as the team's primary cornerback, with Robertson and Emmanuel Moseley as backups. Sutton has a $12.68 million 2024 cap hit and makes $10.5 million this fall.
