Dallas — On Wednesday, President Joe Biden asked and answered the standard “are you better off today than you were four years ago” question to remind people of Trump's presidency.
The Democratic president also attacked Trump for suggesting over the weekend that losing to Biden again in November would cause a “bloodbath”. Trump and his aides said the Republican was talking about the auto sector. Trump's detractors disagreed.
Biden's first public response to Trump's “bloodbath” allegation was, “Folks, we can't stand for this.” As Americans, Democrats, independents, and Republicans, we must condemn political violence. Period.”
"A few days ago, Donald Trump asked the famous question at one of his rallies: Are you better off today than you were four years ago?" Biden stated at two Dallas-area campaign fundraisers, one of which raised $2.5 million, one host said.
Well Donald, I'm glad you asked that question man because I hope everyone in the country takes a moment to think back when it was like in March of 2020,” Biden added. The Democratic president reminded the audience that the coronavirus had entered America, hospital emergency rooms were congested, first responders were risking their lives, and some nurses wore trash bags owing to a lack of PPE.
Biden stated morgues were being erected up outside hospitals because so many people were dying, unemployment rose, the stock market plummeted, and grocery store shelves were empty.
He added, “And we were even in a toilet paper crisis,” before describing a reversal after Trump. First, Trump is gone, then COVID is under control, 15 million jobs returned, and the stock market rallied, Biden added.
Now that they are their parties' expected nominees, Biden campaign officials say voters who tuned out are starting to consider a Biden-Trump rematch. They also believe that Biden must remind the public of Trump's instability to win reelection by presenting himself as the more stable option.
“The issue goes beyond Trump's presidency. He wants to take us there, Biden remarked. Pay attention to his words. I hope we all take it seriously. Means what he says. As strange as it seems, he means it.” It's not about me, folks. He's the focus, Biden said. He also attacked U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who is supported by Trump and being challenged by Rep. Colin Allred, D-Texas. “You gotta elect Colin as your next senator so Ted Cruz joins another loser, Donald Trump,” Biden added.
