A traditional Southern morning dish, Biscuits and Gravy consists of fluffy biscuits covered in sausage gravy.

Biscuits and Gravy is a classic Southern breakfast dish that's hearty and flavorful. Here's a basic recipe for making biscuits and sausage gravy:

Ingredients: For the Biscuits: – 2 cups all-purpose flour – 1 tablespoon baking powder – 1 teaspoon sugar – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small piece – 3/4 cup milk

For the Sausage Gravy: – 1 pound ground breakfast sausage (pork or a mix of pork and turkey) – 1/4 cup all-purpose flour – 3 cups milk – Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions: 1. Make Biscuits: a. Heat the oven to 425°F (220°C). b. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.

c. Stir in cold, diced butter to flour. Cut the butter into the flour with a pastry cutter or fingertips until it resembles coarse crumbs. d. Stir in milk until almost mixed. Do not overmix.

e. Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface. The dough should be 1 inch thick. f. Cut round biscuits and lay on a baking sheet. g. Bake biscuits till golden brown, 12-15 minutes.

2. Make Sausage Gravy: a. Brown ground sausage in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon, until cooked through. b. Stir the flour into the cooked sausage. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove raw flour taste. c. Slowly add milk while stirring to avoid lumps. Continue cooking and stirring for 5-7 minutes to thicken gravy. d. Salt and black pepper the gravy to taste. Remember that sausage adds salt, so taste before adding more.

3. Serve: a. Cut warm biscuits in half and arrange on plates. b. Cover biscuits with hot sausage gravy. c. Optional black pepper garnish. Southern-style Biscuits and Gravy make a comfortable breakfast!
