Star wide receiver DJ Moore of the Chicago Bears has voiced his preference for Justin Fields to retain his position as the team’s primary quarterback.
However, in the event that Caleb Williams is drafted by the Bears, Moore emphasizes that Williams shouldn’t feel pressured to overshadow Fields’ legacy within the locker room.
On March 20, Moore stated regarding Williams, “If he joins us, I hope he comes in ready to work,” during an appearance on 670 The Score’s “Mully & Haugh” show.
“He shouldn’t concern himself with Justin Fields’ legacy; he should focus on pursuing his own goals.”
Moore has been a vocal supporter of Fields during his time in Chicago, publicly expressing his support for the quarterback.
He disclosed that he had discussed Fields positively during exit meetings with the Bears before the 2024 offseason.
Additionally, Moore continued to advocate for Fields during the 2024 Super Bowl week on Radio Row in Las Vegas.
Despite his allegiance to Fields, Moore acknowledges the Bears’ opportunity with their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, acknowledging that “business is business.”
Although he didn’t anticipate Fields leaving for the Pittsburgh Steelers, he remains enthusiastic about working with Williams or any rookie quarterback the Bears select.
“I’ll be excited to collaborate with whoever we bring in,” Moore affirmed.
“As I’ve said, business is business. While Fields didn’t want to leave, ultimately, it’s the organization’s decision, and we’ll adapt accordingly.”
Excitement Over Bears’ Offensive Additions
In recent weeks, the Bears have bolstered their offense beyond the quarterback position.
Two days before trading Fields, they acquired offensive playmaker Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a 2024 fourth-round pick.
According to ESPN, only eight NFL players had 90 receptions and 1,200 receiving yards in the 2023 season.
With Moore and Allen now teammates, the Bears boast one of the league’s most formidable receiving duos for a rookie quarterback.
Moore expressed enthusiasm upon learning about the acquisition of Allen, noting, “I thought, ‘Ooh.’ We now have more tools to win games in 2024.”
He also highlighted his excitement about running back D’Andre Swift, a fellow Philadelphia native and longtime friend. Swift, who was the Bears’ other significant offensive addition, received Moore’s first congratulatory call upon signing with the team.
“I’ve known him since we were kids,” Moore shared. “We grew up together, trained together, and won championships together.
It’s fantastic to have him on the team.”
Potential Offensive Additions in the NFL Draft
The Bears have devoted significant attention to their offense throughout the 2024 offseason.
In addition to trading for Allen and signing Swift, they acquired center prospects Ryan Bates and Coleman Shelton, as well as tight end Gerald Everett.
They also hired Shane Waldron as their new offensive coordinator.
While the Bears are expected to draft their new franchise quarterback, their focus may shift to other offensive positions.
With limited draft picks, they may consider selecting a premium offensive player with their No. 9 overall pick, such as a wide receiver like Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers.
Additionally, they could address offensive line needs beyond the first round or potentially acquire more picks through trading down.
