Healthy Eating Is Beneficial, But Are You Eating Correctly?

You can accidently consume healthy food wrong. Healthy food is crucial to our daily diet, but how we prepare, cook, and eat it can greatly affect its nutritional worth. Sometimes people choose nutritious foods, but their cooking and eating habits diminish their nutritional worth. Below are some ways we can harm good food consumption.

Although a superfood, many merely eat the flesh and throw away the seed. However, the seed contains antioxidants and fiber and can be shredded into smoothies or salad dressing for extra nourishment.

Others avoid yolks because they think they're rich in cholesterol. However, most nutrients, including brain-healthy choline, are in the yolk. The whole egg is healthy, so sauté, boil, or omelet it.

Although usually boiled or steamed, this vegetable can be eaten raw. It has higher vitamin C, folate, and sulforaphane, which reduces inflammation and prevents cancer, when eaten raw.

These provide protein and fiber, however some avoid them due to flatulence. Soaking dried beans overnight and washing them carefully before cooking reduces gas-causing oligosaccharides.

Chocolate with at least 70% cacao has less sugar and more antioxidants. Since it's calorie-dense, chocolate should be eaten in moderation. Add chocolate to smoothies or oatmeal for a treat.

Although nuts are nutritious, many don't realize how high in calories they are. Instead of nibbling, eat a handful to regulate portion size. Avoid extra sodium and harmful oils by choosing unsalted, raw nuts.

Cooking tomatoes increases lycopene, an antioxidant that fights cancer and heart disease. Adding cooked tomatoes to soups, sauces, or stews boosts nutrients.

Reading labels is important because many yogurts have added sugars. Protein-packed Greek yogurt makes a filling breakfast or snack. For a tasty treat, add fresh berries, almonds, and honey.

In conclusion, healthy foods are only beneficial when eaten properly and in moderation. Understanding how to eat nutritious meals using the guidelines above can help you reap their benefits. Choosing the appropriate meals is important, but how we cook and eat them affects their nutritional content.
